Semptify
Document everything.
The whole idea behind Semptify — and a habit that protects you whether or not you ever use it.
When something goes wrong with your housing — a repair that never happens, a deposit that comes back short, a notice you weren't expecting — the facts matter later. A clear, dated record keeps them straight. Most people don't have one.
Semptify is a tenant rights organization that helps you keep one.
What that looks like
Keep a record while things happen. Log rent payments, repair requests, and conversations. Build a timeline of your tenancy as it unfolds, not months later from memory.
Keep your own documents. Your lease, photos, and receipts stay in your own Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. We never store your documents on our servers.
Know the verified facts. The Know Your Rights library explains Minnesota tenant law in plain language. Facts only, no opinions, and every claim shows where it came from.
See the next step. Checklists, deadline reminders, and plain-language guides, so you always know what comes next.
The numbers behind it
A record is not a formality. In one study of more than 100,000 eviction cases, about 70% of tenants lost automatically because they never appeared in court. Kansas City Eviction Project
When tenants do act on their rights, records change outcomes. In a California study, tenants who challenged a withheld deposit in court prevailed in more than 70% of the cases that reached a judgment — but most tenants never file. Tenants Together
Whether or not you use Semptify
Document everything anyway. A notebook works. A phone camera works. Write down what happened, when it happened, and who you talked to. Photograph the problem. Keep every notice and receipt. If you get a court notice, show up.
That habit is the difference between a story and a record someone can act on.
What it costs, and what it doesn't do to you
No cost, always. No advertising, ever. No tracking. No data sales. Donation-funded, open source, no investors. Your documents are yours.
What Semptify is not
Semptify is an organizational tool and educational resource, not a law firm. We can't give legal advice or tell you what to do in your situation. For that, contact a licensed attorney or your local legal aid society. In Minnesota, HOME Line runs a statewide tenant hotline (1-800-745-6686).
