Your situation
Your landlord is harassing or threatening you
Two things matter at once: your safety right now, and the record of every incident. Handle the first one first — help lines exist for exactly this.
First — do this now
- If you feel unsafe right now, treat that as the emergency it is — contact local help before anything on this page.
- Save every message — texts, emails, voicemails, letters. Don't delete the upsetting ones; they are the record.
- Write down each incident the day it happens: date, time, what was said or done, who saw it.
- Keep a log of unannounced visits and drive-bys — patterns only show when every instance is recorded.
- Tell someone you trust what's happening, so you're not carrying it alone.
Build the record
If you have a safety concern, document the problem with photos, the date you noticed it, and any reports you made to the landlord or authorities. Semptify stores these in your vault so you have a complete record.
Every step above works on paper or in your phone's camera today. These tools show how Semptify keeps the same record for you.
- Find help now Crisis lines, tenant advocates, and legal aid.
- See how journal recording works Dated private notes about each incident.
- See how timeline recording works The pattern is the point; the timeline shows it.
- Know your rights Harassment and quiet-enjoyment rules.
Know the facts
You have the right to a safe home. This includes working locks, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and protection from hazards. Semptify can help you learn the rules, but an advocate can explain how they apply to your building.
Laws differ by state and situation. The law library has the referenced material, and legal aid can tell you how it applies to you.
If it goes further
If a safety issue is not being fixed and affects your health or security, you may have legal options. Do not take drastic steps like withholding rent or breaking the lease without talking to a tenant advocate or attorney first.
With your own workspace
For a safety issue, report it to your landlord in writing, keep a copy, and consider contacting local housing or code enforcement if it is serious. Semptify can help you document and track the request, but emergencies need 911 or immediate local services.
Connect your own storage and these tools open — everything stays in your accounts, not on our servers.
